The holy Shiite site which is home to the tombs of the tenth Imam Ali Al Hadi, who died in 868 A.D and his son Hassan al-Askari, the eleventh imam, who died in 874 A.D was bombed on June 13th.
The Iranian official responsible for the reconstruction project, Hashemi Khanssari informed that Iranian architects were planning to work on rebuilding the Al Askari shrine.
Speaking to ISNA, Khansari said that project would be closely studied at a meeting with Iran's Cultural Heritage and Tourism organization officials and then handed over to Iranian architects for project finalization.
He said Iraqi officials had not yet issued a license for rebuilding the holy site.
"We are on the verge of sealing a contract with the Iraqi government for reconstruction of the shrine, but because they haven't taken any actions yet, we cannot declare or take initiatives officially," he said.
