TEHRAN, March 4 (Mehr News Agency) -- The lyric poems of Iran's Hafez were retranslated by Peter Avery and published in London.
In this complete collection, 486 poems have been translated into English for the first time with the cooperation of Iran Heritage Foundation.
Avery is one of the most eminent scholars of Persian poetry of the West and it was his late friend, the great Iranian scholar Parviz Khanlari, who edited what is often accepted as the most reliable collection of poems.
He has contributed to English language work on Persian history and literature, such as "The Age of Expansion and Medieval Persia" and published "Modern Iran".
One of Avery's best known work is a translation (with poet John Heath-Stubbs) of the Persian text of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.
