Tehran, March 4, IRNA - Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini on Sunday condemned the US government for declining visas for members of the all-women Iranian delegation which was to attend the 51st conference of the UN Commission on Status of Women in New York.
Hosseini said the US acted in violation of its immediate duties and obligations to UN members.
He said the US uses its status as host of the UN to its political advantage to exert pressure on independent states.
He added that regrettably, it is not the first time the US is making such moves to prevent UN members from fulfilling their duties and bringing up their views at meetings or conferences, sponsored by UN agencies.
The spokesman said the US has the responsibility to facilitate the participation of UN members in the universal bodies' international meetings.
"Global community is required to take account of this issue," he added.
