Tehran, March 6, IRNA - Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Tuesday reaffirmed Iranian support for Palestinian nation. Mottaki made the remarks in a joint press conference with the Head of Hamas Political Bureau Khaled Meshaal.
He said that Iran supports the Mecca Accord brokered by Saudi Arabia last month between the Fatah Movement led by President of Palestine Authority (PA) Mahmud Abbas and the Hamas Movement represented by Prime Minister Ismail Haniya on power sharing and establishment of Palestine National Unity Government.
Mottaki said Tehran backs any initiative which would lead to solidarity of Palestinian nation and establishment of Palestine National Unity Government.
The Palestinian official has come to Tehran to brief the Iranian officials on process of enforcing the Mecca Accord and the measures being considered by the two parties.
"We are proud of having relations with Iran, he said adding that the Palestinian nation thanks Iran's support for the cause of Palestine," he said.
He appreciated Iranian peace efforts in Palestine to help develop unity between the Palestinian parties.
He said that Hamas stands loyal to the Mecca Accord and will support Palestinian national interest.
Reports coming in said that negotiations are underway between PA President Abbas and Prime Minister Haniya in Gaza on designating individuals to the key posts of the deputy prime minister and the interior minister accepted by the two parties.
