Shahr-e Kord, Charmahal-Bakhtiari, March 7, IRNA - Deputy minister of economic affairs and finance has announced that the amount of foreign investments in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2006) has reached 13 billion dollars.
Mohammad Khazaie, who also heads Iran's Organization for Investments, Economic and Technical Assistance (IOIETA), added the foreign investment in Iran in the past year was 4.3 billion dollars and this figure has recorded a significant growth.
This excludes investments in the oil and gas sectors as well as in the free trade zones of Iran.
Khazaie mentioned that so far more than 2,500 opportunities for foreign investments have been identified in various Iranian provinces, of which information on 850 investment opportunities have been sent to Iranian embassies.
According to Khazaie, it is expected that the amount of foreign investment until the end of Fourth Five-Year Development Plan will reach 31 billion dollars.
He mentioned that Iran has obtained the necessary grounds for absorbing more foreign investments.
The official added that in the past European countries were interested in investment in Iran, and currently Persian Gulf states and Islamic countries are showing interest.
