Tehran, May 5, Taliya News - Official in charge of .ir registrations at Theoretical Physics and Mathematics Research Center in Tehran said on Tuesday so far 55,000 .iran and .ir Internet domains have been registered in country.
Siavash Mir-Shashahani added in an interview with IT News Desk reporter of IRNA, "Out of that total, 2030 domains are .iran and the rest are .ir domains."
Shashahani reiterated, "Welcome rendered to .iran domain is still not as high as expected, because the Iranians are still entangled with problems regarding website in Persian language, because the keyboards of their computers are often merely offering the English alphabet, and so are the operating systems with which they work."
He added, "The applicants can add a .iran suffix to their .ir domain name, so that they would not have to change their keyboards to one with Persian alphabet either.
Shashahani said that although official registration for .iran domains has started since September 2005, using Persian language domains have privileges for the users, too, since for instance there are no standards in Persian language for turning a Persian name to a Latin language, such as English, French, or German, but using a Persian domain prefix solves that problem.
