Number of phone lines in Iran 40 million - ICT Minister

Kerman, May 5, Taliya News - Information and Telecommunications (ICT) Minister said on Friday number of active stationary and mobile phone numbers in country is currently 40 million, 15 million of which have been delivered by 9th Government.

According to ISNA, Mohammad Soleimani pointing out that President Ahmadinejad's cabinet has proved that construction is also possible without extravagance, made the comment at the opening ceremony of 1,000 telecom project of Kerman Province.

He added, "Fifty percent decrease in expenses despite raising prices proves high competence of the 9th Government."

Soleimani reiterated, "In the year 1978 (the year of the Islamic Revolution's victory in Iran), out of 100,000 Iranian villages only 312 of them had telecom services, while in the year 2006 the comparative figure was 51,000 villages."

Stationary phone numbers to become 8 digit nationwide

MCI Managing Director said here Tuesday entire stationary phone numbers in Iran would be changed to eight digit numbers till year end.

Saber Feyzi added, "Long distance call tariffs, too, would be deleted and changing the stationary phone numbers that are shorter than eight digits would begin as of the beginning of summer of 2007 and end till March 2008.

According to IT reporter of IRNA, the TCI internet website has reported that the phone number change program would also include the villager subscribers of the TCI.
