Dubai, May 9, IRNA - Iran's Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Hamid-Reza Assefi said Wednesday that the 12 Iranian divers, detained by the UAE, were released on Wednesday.
Asefi told IRNA that the UAE Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid al-Maktoum had ordered release of the divers in his meeting with him today.
He said Iran's embassy in Abu Dhabi, immediately after detention of the Iranian divers, had sent a note to the Emirate's Foreign Ministry calling for their release.
He added that since arrest of the divers, Iran and the UAE have been seeking settlement of the case with good will.
The Iranian envoy announced that the Iranian divers will soon be sent back to Iran.
The twelve Iranian divers had been detained on international waters and transferred to the UAE on Tuesday by the UAE marine guards while performing their regular duty.
