TEHRAN, May 9 (Mehr News Agency) -- Iranian musician Mehdi Azarsina announced on Wednesday that a research concert on Iranian dastgahi music is scheduled to be held in late May at the School of Music at the Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada.
Dastgah in Iranian music is a set of notes, their features, and an associated group of traditional melodies that constitute the basis for improvising a performance.
Azarsina said that the invitation was made by Tom Gordon, the director of the School of Music. He added that during the assembly the concept of form in Iranian music will be discussed.
Azarsina, who is conducting the band "Ayneh", said that his friends in Canada expect him to hold similar research concerts in Vancouver and Toronto.
He also remarked that the band "Ayneh" has resumed its performances and will be giving a concert at Tehran's Vahdat Hall in the autumn.
Members of the band include Mehdi Akhavan who plays the tonbak, Emad Hanifeh (tar), Mehdi Olumi and Behzad Mirlu (kamancheh), Amir Haj-Ebrahimi (ney), and Mohsen Hosseini (santur). Maliheh Moradi and Azarsina are the vocalists.
