TEHRAN, May 9 (Mehr News Agency) - Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf was reelected on Wednesday, receiving 12 votes from the 15-member Tehran City Council.
Qalibaf has been serving as Tehran mayor since September 2005, when his predecessor Mahmud Ahmadinejad stepped down to assume the presidency.
After his reelection, Qalibaf thanked the TCC and Tehran citizens and said the Municipality would begin a new era of hard work and urban services.
He stated that he is ready to extend a "hand of friendship and cooperation" to all groups in order to provide more services to citizens.
Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee rapporteur Kazem Jalali praised the decision to reelect Qalibaf and said it was a "vigilant" choice that reinforced national unity.
Hopes have risen that Qalibaf will overcome the problems facing the metropolis of Tehran during his new mandate, Jalali said.
