Minsk, May 21, IRNA - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad conferred on Monday in Minsk with Belarussian Counterpart Alexander Lukashenko on expansion of cooperation between the two countries.
Officials of Iran and Belarus signed a number of memorandums of understandings (MoUs) to develop cooperation on higher education, research and know-how technology, banking cooperation and construction of the second phase of Samand auto industry in Belarus.
The two presidents also signed a joint statement.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Minsk, Belarus, Monday on a two-day visit to hold talks with Belarussian officials.
President Ahmadinejad and his accompanying delegation were welcomed at Minsk airport by Belarus Foreign Minister and acting prime minister Sergei Martynov.
Ahmadinejad's visit to Minsk is taking place at the invitation of his Belarus counterpart Alexander Lukashenko.
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, Minister of Commerce Massoud Mir-Kazemi, Majlis deputies Mohsen Kouhkan and Alaeddin Boroujerdi and Managing Director of Iran Khodro Auto Manufacturing Company Manouchehr Manteqi are accompanying the president.
The Iranian president is to discuss bilateral ties and key international developments with Lukashenko, parliament speaker and several other senior Belarus officials.
The bill was approved by MPs during Majlis open session on the eve of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's official two-day visit to Belarus, scheduled to take place on Monday upon an official invitation by his Belarussian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko.
Following a proposal offered by Vice-President for Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Ahmad Moussavi, the cabinet on Sunday called on the Majlis to give priority on its agenda to reviewing and endorsing the bill.
President Ahmadinejad presented the bill to the Majlis on June 18.
