TEHRAN, Nov. 3 (Mehr News Agency) -- The House of Cinema paid tribute to Shahram Nazeri, the winner of France's Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur medal, in a ceremony held in Khoy, the resting place of Shams on Friday.
Representatives of the foundation Alireza Raisian and Mohammadreza Aslani, presented Nazeri with the plaque of the House of Cinema, the golden key of the tomb of Shams, and the medal of Shams.
Several cinematic figures including Hamid Jebelli, Davud Rashidi, Ali Nasirian, Masud Rayegan, Mahtab Karamati, Sirus Alvand, and Fatemeh Gudarzi were present at the ceremony.
Nazeri and his band gave a concert at the tomb of Shams Tabrizi.
Before the performance, Nazeri made a speech and said, "I am thankful to God to have given us the opportunity to perform in this place.
He went on to say, "Some scholars believe that Khoy will become a second Konya in the future, this will undoubtedly come true, and it will have a positive influence on the culture of Iran."
The band performed for 45 minutes and included tar player Mohsen Nafar, kamancheh players Sina Jahanabadi and Soheil Aminzadeh, and lute player Hossein Rezaiinia.
Born in the city of Tabriz, Shams lived together with Rumi in Konya for several years. Shams was immortalized in Rumi's collection of poetry named the "Divan of Shams ad-Din of Tabriz".
Rumi's love for him and his bereavement at his death found expression in an outpouring of music, dance, and lyrical poetry.
