Conference in Qom focuses on Iran-US challenges

Qom, Nov 6, IRNA - Faculty of Political Sciences of Qom University here Monday evening sponsored a conference titled Surveying Challenges in Iran-US relations.

Secretary General of the country's Muslim Journalists Association (MJA) said at the political gathering, "So long as the United States keeps its hegemonic spirit and Iran maintains the fundamentals of its ideological beliefs, naturalizing relations between the two countries is impossible."

Mahdi Faza'eli added, "The interests of the United States and Iran are in direct contrast with one another, and the Iranian nation has ever since the US backed 1952 coup against Prime Minister Dr. Mosaddeq's Government till the present day experienced nothing but threats and destruction posed by the United States.

He said, "The November 4th, 1979 capture of the US espionage den (Embassy) revealed the fact that the United States spares no efforts to topple the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran."

Faza'eli said, "Today, too, the United States is continuing the same antagonist policies, and is not after making up for the black record of its past enmities against the Iranians, but spares no fforts aimed at proving its deep rooted continuous enmity against he Islamic Republic of Iran."

He added, "Our challenges with the United States at the international scene has in addition to severing the hands of Washington off the national interests of the Iranian nation inside Iran, but has had manifestations beyond our border in such countries as Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Africa and Latin America, as well."

Faza'eli said, "Whenever the enemy feels there is a weak point in us, it gets more aggressive, but observing the spirit of resistance makes it hesitate and begin reviewing the costs of any encounter again."

He added, "We have tolerated lots of hardships so far, and we need to preserve out spirit of resistance, even though there might be more severe economic sanctions, and even limited military threats ahead."
