Qom, Nov 13, IRNA - On auspicious birth anniversary of Lady Fatemeh a-Ma'soumeh, the daughter of the 7th Shi'a Imam Mousa Kazem, country's 2nd women's university was opened in Qom, Iran.
Deputy Science, Research and Technology Minister Dr. Hassan Khaleqi said at the opening ceremony of Hazrate Ma'soumeh University, "Expansion projects of this university must be pursued harmonically with the ethical and cultural norms of the holy city of Qom, and the sanctity of Lady Ma'soumeh."
He said that the main objective behind the establishment of Hazrate Ma'soumeh University is providing greater possibilities for the Iranian women to achieve their deserved status, that is very exclusive and exalted, based on Islamic and Iranian norms.
Khaleqi added, "This university would assist the concerned officials greatly in their pursuit for an ideal national-Islamic model for our women's living standards."
The Deputy Science Minister said, "Some Iranian families prefer that their daughters would study at women's universities and Hazrate Ma'soumeh University is a response to those families' demand." He said that the status of our country's higher education system is satisfactory today, adding, "Today we have enough capacity to admit the entire applicants for higher education in our contrary at our universities, and the entrance exam of the universities is merely aimed at testing the applicants' academic capabilities in order to decide their fields of studies."
Khaleqi reiterated, "Despite proper development of higher education in our country, in some provinces, including in Qom, we do not have enough universities yet."
Referring to the existence of the renowned Qom Seminary in that holy city, he said, "Qom would in near future be a major pole of not only seminary, but also university studies."
He stressed, "A combination of university and seminary training has already been presented to the scholars in Qom, which has been quite a unique achievement, but the universities, too, need to be developed here side by side with the advancement of the seminaries."
The deputy Science Minister said,"We should have at least 60,000 university students in Qom now, which is still an unmet objective.
Hazrate Ma'soumeh University is scheduled to admit 300 students next year in its six faculties.
It now has 165 students in its faculties of Laws, Business Administration, and Accounting.
The facilities provided for the university students include a central library with 4,000 volumes of books, transportation service, and a dormitory.
