- According to official figures
there are on the average 3.17 literate members in Iran’s
rural households while 10.69 percent of rural households have no literate
member.
According to official reports in
1384 [2005-2006] the average number of literate members of the rural households
in the first decile [one-tenth] of income groups was 0.96 and 55.6 percent of
these households did not have any literate member.

According to educational reporter of
ISNA in 1384 there were on the average 3.17 literate members in
Iran’s rural households. On the
average in 24.31 percent of rural households there are five or more literate
members. On the other hand 10.69 percent of the total rural households, in all
income groups, have no literate member.
In 1384 on the average 2.06 members
of the rural households in the second decile of income groups were literate. The
maximum number of literate members in this income group was two literate
members.
In the same year in 11.76 percent of
rural households in the third decile of income groups, there were no literate
members at all.
According to this report in the
fourth to eighth income deciles in rural households the literate member of the
household was between 3.01 to 3.84 members. In the fourth income decile 7.33
percent of the households did not have any literate member. In this same income
group only 20.06 percent of the household had five or more literate
members.
This report further shows that 5.4
percent of rural households in the fifth decile income group in 1384 have no
literate member and 22.33 percent in this group have five or more literate
members.
The number of rural households
without a literate member in the sixth, seventh and eighth decile income groups
are 3.15, 2.23 and 2.42 percent accordingly ; households in these deciles having
five or more literate members are accordingly 25.12, 32,17 and 33.49
percent.
According to
ISNA, citing figures from Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI), the average of literate in the upper income
deciles in rural household in 1384 are much more than other income groups: only
1.09 percent of households in the ninth income decile and 1.35 percent of in the
tenth income decile didn't have a literate member in their household. On the
other hand 36.52 percent of households in the ninth income decile and 46.19
percent of the household in the tenth income decile in rural areas have five and
more literate members. According to
these figures the average of literate members in household is 4.06 persons in
the ninth income decile and 4.48 persons in the tenth income
decile.
According to
ISNA a comparison between the literate members of the household in deciles one
to three of income groups, which are the families living below the poverty line,
with literacy in households in upper income groups reveals a considerable
difference regarding the level of literacy among them.
