Iraqi Kurdistan to send delegation to discuss border closure

TEHRAN, Oct. 1 (Mehr News Agency) -- Spokesman for Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Jamal Abdullah said on Monday that the KRG will send a high-ranking delegation this week to negotiate the border closure issue with Iran.

"A high-ranking Iraqi Kurdistan delegation will discuss the border closure issue with the Iranian officials to convince them cancel their shelling of border areas and to negotiate about the crisis," Abdullah told AFP.

Kurdish merchants and investors have decided to send a note to the president of the United States to declare a downside in trade ties because of the border closure, Abdullah al-Haj, the trade affairs assistant to Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, has said.

In the note, they have underlined their economic, social, and cultural ties with Iran, he added.

The note will be delivered to the U.S. president during Talabani's visit to U.S., al-Haj stated.
