CHN Foreign Desk- 1 October 2007- According to "Sohrab Poshtdare" environment expert of the supreme council for the protection of environment, industrial fishing boats and ships of Jaask will be investigated today by experts. This inspection is planned to clear doubts about the case of dead dolphins in east coasts of Persian Gulf.
He adds: dolphins are smart animals which usually avoid fishing nets. They are aerobic and have lung. It is possible that these dolphins had got trapped in nets and lost their lives. Discovering the main reason of their death requires further inspections and investigations.
Fishermen and residents of Jaask and nearby villages blame industrial fishing ships for this disaster.
Although the 79 dolphins did not all die in one day, their corpses were not discovered until last Wednesday. In this regard "Poshtdare" explains: the corpses were located in 150-kilometer distance from Jaask and investigators of the supreme council for the protection of environment had been there a few days before this event. Ignorance of residents was another reason for delay in discovering corpses.
After his personal investigations on the corpses, "Poshtdare" could not detect any sign of chemical or petroleum pollution. He states that in case we accept the chemical pollution of water as the cause of dolphin's death, there should be corpses of other animals with the same infection.
The identical case of 64 dead dolphins on 2004 is still open and under investigation.
Note: Jask is part of Iran's Hormozgan Province
