Iranians win gold, bronze at World Junior Karate

Tehran, Oct 22, IRNA - Iran's karate fighter Zabihollah Poursheib has won the plus-80kg gold at 5th World Junior and Cadet Karate Championship in Istanbul.

Poursheib won the first title after knocking down the powerful Ukrainian contender in final, and brought the first coveted gold medal o the Iranian camp, reported Press TV.

Poursheib's teammate Millad Yari also snatched the bronze medal in minus 80kg.

In minus 75kg, Farzad Abbas-Zadeh outpowered his Ukrainian rival in the first round, but was sidelined because of the injury that he had picked up two days earlier in a contest versus a Spanish fighter.

The international karate law forbids the injured contestants from continuing the fights.

Jalil Bakhshi, Iran's national team coach, said that the medical team did now allow Abass-Zadeh to continue with his next contests due to injuries.
