Shahram Nazeri thanks the Iranian nation

TEHRAN, Oct. 23 (Mehr News Agency) -- "This award belongs to all those who have worked hard attempting to promote our country's culture," Shahram Nazeri, winner of France's Chevalier de la Legion d'honneur medal said at a press conference on Monday.

Nazeri expressed his thanks to everyone and continued, "I appreciate the nation's support over the years. I would never have made any progress without it. I also want to take the opportunity to express my special thanks to the Kurd nation of my birthplace, Kermanshah. My own people have always encouraged me and I acknowledge that I am indebted to them for my success.

"I am only a single drop in the ocean of this country's art," Nazeri remarked in a press conference held at the venue of the monthly magazine Ferdowsi.

Several veteran artists and literary figures including actor Ezzatollah Entezami, writer Mahmud Dowlatabadi, translator Media Kashigar, painter Piruz Kalantari, and musician Mohammad Sarir attended the conference to express their gratitude to Nazeri.

Writer Dowlatabadi also made a speech and said, "I am so happy that we are here to congratulate Nazeri on receiving this award from France, and we appreciate this national honor. This distinction, which has been achieved by one of our great masters of music, has elevated the global status of our country in this sphere of art."

Dowlatabadi later called for greater unity amongst musicians and the formation of group activities to replace individual work.

Actor Entezami was the next to talk, saying, "All artists and intellectuals who are unique, who have something different to offer, will eventually, someday, get to display their talents at national or international events, and it is Nazeri's originality that helped him gain this award."

Music Office spokesman Mohammad Sarir also expressed his ideas about Iranian music and said, "The strong aura surrounding Iranian melodies has left its impression on the world, and I believe Nazeri's achievement in gaining this medal will be a turning point in the history of Iran's music. I hope this will make officials aware that more attention must be paid to this field of Iranian art."
