Iranian films scoop up awards at Italian gala


TEHRAN, Oct. 24 (Mehr News Agency) -- Four Iranian films won several prizes at the 10th Religion Today Film Festival, which was held in Trento, Italy from October 6 to 20.
 
Director Rasul Mollaqolipur’s swan song “M for Mother” was presented the best film award.
 
In the war-related drama, families of every religion of Iran share the problem of handicapped children.
 
“M for Mother” will be representing Iran in the Oscar race in the Best Foreign Language Films category at the 80th Annual Academy Awards in 2008.
 
Director Abbas Rafei won the festival’s “In the Spirit of the Faith” award for “The Sun Shines on All”, which tells the story of two women of different faiths searching for truth.
 
The film also received the Town Council of Arco award in the Women and Religion category.
 
In the Inter-Religious Dialogue section, the organizers presented the “In Memory of Don Silvio Franch” award to “Jesus, the Spirit of God” directed by Nader Talebzadeh.
 
In addition, Iran’s “God Is Close” directed by Ali Vazirian and the French film “Un Noel au Tibet” shared the “Don Tonino Bello” award.
 
Iranian filmmaker Mojtaba Raei was on the jury of the festival’s international section.
