International congress on Rumi opens in Tehran


Tehran, Oct 28, IRNA - The International Congress on the 800th birth anniversary of Molana Jalaleddin Molavi Balkhi, the renowned Iranian mystic poet, kicked off here on Sunday.

The congress was inaugurated by speech of Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad-Hossein Saffar-Harandi.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also attended the event to address the audience.

Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel will also deliver speech during the inaugural session of the confab.

A total of 450 articles from 29 countries has been received by the secretariat of the congress to be evaluated by 21 judges.

Philosophy, mysticism and religion, Molana and contemporary world, understanding among cultures and religions in Molana's thoughts, art and aesthetics, story writing, and language and literature are among subjects of the congress.

The congress will be held in Tehran for two days. It will continue its work in the northwestern cities of Tabriz and Khoy for the next three days (two days in Tabriz and one day in Khoy).

Also, to commemorate Molana, a stamp has been designed by Maestro Mahmoud Farshchian who has produced 16 precious miniatures on Molana.

Playing national Iranian music will be among other programs of the congress which is being held at the Organization of Islamic Conference's auditorium in northern Tehran.
