Iran to keep exporting pistachio under Green Corridor Project

TEHRAN, Sept. 2 (Mehr News Agency) - The Green Corridor Project manager announced here on Sunday that the initiative was successful in the previous Iranian year (ended March 20, 2007), adding pistachio will be exported under the strict guidelines of the project this year.

Talking to MNA, Mehdi Irani-Kermani added that some 1,850 tons of the nut was exported to the European Union countries last year.

The Scientific and Technical Committee of International Nut and Dried Fruit Council represented by G. Calcagni and M. Jalalpur, president of Kerman's Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines (KCCIM), agreed to launch the Green Corridor Project in 2004 to analyze all the critical control points and find guidelines and possible solutions.

The body devised a comprehensive set of guidelines with regard to how best to produce, package and export pistachio with minimum damage or contamination.
