First veiled Iranian female referee to judge women football games in Jordan

Tehran, Sept 2, IRNA - The first Iranian veiled female football referee, Nadereh Doroudian, will judge the second West Asian women football games in Jordan, it was reported on Sunday.

Doroudian will blow the whistle during the tournament which is to begin in Amman as of September 3, secretary of the Football Federation's committee on international affairs, Amir Karim-Pour, said.

He added that observing the Islamic dress code (Hijab) by Doroudian was not contradictory to the regulations of the Federation of the International Football Association (FIFA).

Karim-Pour expressed hope that Doroudian's presence with Hijab would encourage Muslim women's more active presence in all fields of sports including football.

The second West Asian women football games will start in the Jordanian capital on Monday with the participation of Iran, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.
