TEHRAN, Sept. 4 (Mehr News Agency) - The production line of Peugeot Pars will go on stream in Egypt by September 22, said the managing director of Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) here on Tuesday. The initial annual production will be 2,500 sedans, Manuchehr Manteqi added.
Considering the flourishing market in Egypt and North Africa, the figure is expected to reach 5,000 cars, he predicted, elaborating that the production will be in the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) form and some of the Peugeot Pars parts will be supplied from the Egyptian market.
The brand will be assembled with TUS, 1600cc engines, he said.
He added that the successful tentative production of first Peugeot Pars in Egypt took place last week.
The first sent consignment included CKD parts and chassis, decorative parts, and full packed painting materials, he declared.
The Iranian product will be assembled and distributed by Egyptian Arab American Vehicles Company (AAV), he announced.
Peugeot Pars is Iran Khodro Company's, the Middle East's giant automaker, product.
After 10 years of manufacturing Peugeot 405 in Iran Khodro Company, Peugeot Pars (previously named Peugeot Persia) was designed as a facelift of the 405.
Peugeot Persia was soon renamed to Peugeot Pars because of local copyright problems. Peugeot Pars had been made in three models, Pars, Pars 16V, and Pars ELX. The 16V and ELX models use a more powerful PSA 16 valve engine and some new added facilities.
