Iran Cinema Celebration announces year's best documentary films

TEHRAN, Sept. 3 (Mehr News Agency) -- The best documentary films of the 11th Iran Cinema Celebration were announced during a ceremony at the Honar Cultural Center on September 2.

The event was attended by the Deputy Culture Minister for Cinematic Affairs Mohammadreza Jafari-Jelveh, the House of Cinema's board of directors and a group of cineastes.

Actor Parviz Parastuii, secretary of the gala, mentioned that documentaries facilitate the development of national identity by featuring simple but genuine images.

He added that documentary cinema represents every-day experiences and films in this genre help people to reconcile fantasy and reality.

Following is a list of films awarded in the documentary section of the gala:

Best short documentary film director's award: Piruz Kalantari for "Tehran, a Few on the Richter Scale"

Best feature documentary film director's award: Masud Bakhshi for "Tehran Has No Pomegranates"

Best short documentary film award: "Highland's Mournful Chant" directed by Hamed Khosravi

Best feature documentary film award: "Missing Land" directed by Vahid Musaian.

Best Film Research: Piruz Kalantari's "Tehran, a Few on the Richter Scale"

At a celebration marking Iran's National Cinema Day the best feature films will be announced. Sponsored by Iran's House of Cinema, the event will be held in the open-air in the grounds of the Qajar palace of Sadabad, Tehran on September 12.
