Ramadan starts in Iran Thursday

Tehran, Sept 13, IRNA - The holy fasting month of Ramadan began in Iran on Thursday, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei's Office announced.

The office quoted the Supreme Leader as certifying reports of the sighting of the moon in different parts of the country.

Muslims during the month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, abstain from eating, drinking and smoking from sunrise to sunset.

Ramadan for Muslims is a month of blessing, worship and contemplation and an opportunity to gather spiritual strength.
