TEHRAN, Sept. 23 (Mehr News Agency) -- The United States' illegal intervention in Iran's air transportation was discussed in 36th ICAO Assembly, head of Iran's Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) said in Tehran on Sunday.
Hossein Khanlari, also deputy minister of road and transportation, added that Iran underscored the goal behind the gathering, urging the 189 ICAO member states to get committed to the Chicago Convention.
He dismissed the U.S. sanctions as a threat to all passengers from every race and nationality, adding, "We did our best to protect domestic and foreign passengers with security and safety measures."
The official called for more consideration on safety and security issues in all states, adding that Iran has offered its proposal to the executive committee.
Convention on International Civil Aviation, also known as Chicago Convention, was signed on Dec. 7, 1944 by 52 states.
Pending ratification of the convention by 26 states, the Provisional International Civil Aviation Organization (PICAO) was established. It functioned from June 6, 1945 until April 4, 1947. By March 5, 1947 the 26th ratification was received.
ICAO came into being on April 4, 1947. In October of the same year, ICAO became a specialized agency of the United Nations linked to Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
The 36th ICAO Assembly started in the organization's headquarters in Montréal, Canada, on Sept. 18 and will run through Sept. 28.
