TEHRAN, Sept. 26 (Mehr News Agency) -- Former MP Fatemeh Rakeii on Wednesday called on women political activists to form a coalition to help eliminate all forms of discrimination against women. The coalition will also try to obtain a 30 percent share of Majlis seats for women in the 2008 parliamentary elections, she told the Mehr News Agency.
Rakeii who also chairs the women department of Iranian House of Political Parties said the grounds are fertile for formation of such a coalition to protect the rights of all women in the society.
Reformist women have already held talks with some influential political figures to seek support for their efforts to increase the number of women MPs in the next parliament, she explained.
She said that the presence of women in various arenas of the society would benefit the whole country and expressed hope that all political parties including fundamentalists pay respect to the 30 percent share of women in the upcoming elections.
