CASMII US
Press Release, 7 April 2007
PSR and the Campaign Against
Sanctions and Military Intervention in Iran will launch an Iranian Physicians
Tour this April to communicate medical expertise and promote diplomacy with
Iran.
Two prominent Iranian
physicians, Dr. Shahriar Khateri and Dr. Mohammad Reza Soroush, and two Iranian
patients will travel to the United States to communicate the medical
consequences of chemical warfare. Touring through Cambridge, Boston, Hartford,
New York City, Los Angeles and Washington, DC, Dr. Khateri and Dr. Soroush will
share their expertise, gained through two decades of work with chemical weapons
survivors of the Iran-Iraq war. These two doctors started a non-governmental
organization in Tehran, Iran called the Society for Chemical Weapons Victims
Support. They have conducted extensive research on best practices and new
procedures to address the injuries inflicted by chemical weapons. In addition,
they have reached out to several nations to promote the peaceful resolution of
conflicts through education on the horrors of chemical weapon use and by hosting
numerous international visitors in Tehran.
To better understand the
health effects of war and chemical weapons, a public exhibition will be held to
coincide with the Physician Tour in Cambridge, New York City, Los Angeles and
Washington, DC. Much of the material to be exhibited is from the Society for
Chemical Weapons Victims Support. The host organizations creating the tour,
Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) and the Campaign Against Sanctions
and Military Intervention in Iran, will contribute information on the health
effects of war and sanctions as well as offering information on political
alternatives to war as part of the exhibit.
Physicians for Social
Responsibility, guided by the values and expertise of medicine and public
health, works to protect human life from the gravest threats to health and
survival. The following link,
