Iran starts installation of 6,000 new centrifuges: President

Tehran, April 8, IRNA - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced that Iran started installation of some 6,000 new centrifuges on Tuesday. The president made the remarks after inspecting various sections of Natanz nuclear site in Isfahan province, central Iran.

He arrived in the city, some 100 km north of the ancient city of Isfahan, earlier on Tuesday to attend a ceremony marking the third anniversary of National Day of Nuclear Technology.

"In addition to installation of 6,000 new centrifuges, there are also reports about other new achievements which would be announced tonight at TV news program," Ahmadinejad said.

The president is accompanied by Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili and a number of his cabinet members.

The 20th day of the first month of the Iranian calendar year (Farvardin) which falls on April 8 this year, was announced as National Nuclear Technology Day by President Ahmadinejad last year.

The day marks the victory of the Iranian scientists in producing uranium enriched 3.5 percent in Natanz facility two years ago.

The achievement made Iran self-sufficient in production of fuel and the country along with Brazil was recorded as the 8th country possessing fuel cycle, thanks to the efforts made by the young talented experts.

Earlier, only the five veto-wielding members of the UN Security Council -- Russia, China, Britain, France and the United States -- plus Germany and Japan had monopoly of nuclear fuel cycle.
