About a year ago Mrs. Susha Guppy offered me an
opportunity to interview her for the
documentary film I have
produced about Khayyam. She was very supportive of my film project and offered
a lot of good counsel.
Unfortunately, last week I learned that she has suddenly passed away. This was
indeed a great loss for her family and the Iranian community. She was a
talented artist and a well known and respected author. Also, she was an active,
prominent, and admired figure in the Persian community.
I was extremely blessed to have had the opportunity to meet her. I found her to
be full of vigor and she possessed an extremely sharp mind. Her command of
English language and the beautiful way she verbalized her ideas surpassed all my
expectations.
Her confident appearance and down to earth demeanor put me at ease and at once,
I felt welcomed.
In regard to the questions I posed to her, she remained very patient, and
answered them with great ease and competence. Although I was conducting the
interview, it was her superior wit and intellect that directed the course of the
interview and brought it to a successful conclusion
I would do her memory a disservice if I were to formulate any finite opinion
about her person or life; since, I knew her only for few hours. All I know is
that I could have spent tireless hours and days listening to her and all the
while I was there, I felt that I was at the presence of a very beautiful, wise
soul.
I remember vividly the parting smile she brandished as I left her house. It was
the same inviting smile she had greeted me with; a smile that embraced her face
with great ease. It was a great gift that she granted me and I continue to thank
her for leaving me such a beautiful memory.

her.
