TEHRAN, Apr. 13 (Mehr News Agency) - Iranian scientists have made Interferon, gamma-1B, that is used to treat infectious diseases and cancer, Health Minister Kamran Baqeri-Lankarani announced here on Sunday.
After the United States and Germany, Iran is the third country in the world to produce the medicine, Baqeri-Lankarani said at a ceremony held to announce the Iranian scientists' achievement.
Interferon-gamma (IFN-ã) is a dimerized soluble cytokine that is the only member of the type II class of interferons. This interferon was originally called macrophage-activating factor.
The medicine called "Gamma Immunox" is produced by Iran Exir Pharmaceutical Company.
