Tehran, April 28, IRNA -- Iran's Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) and Russian Acting Secretary of the National Security Council held their first round of talks in Tehran Monday morning.
In the meeting, Saeed Jalili and Valentine Sobolev agreed on developing cooperation in all fields for consolidation of peace and stability in the world.
According to the report of SNSC's Public Relations Office on Monday, Jalili said, "Those who are looking for an unipolar world should accept that there are new poles in the world now and returning to the unipolar system is impossible."
He continued, "In a multipolar system, Iran's potentials and politico-economic and security powers domestically, regionally and internationally is undeniable and by relying on such ability we believe multilateral cooperation upon collective obligations for creating a world upon peace, tranquility and justice can be formed." Deeply considering the world developments and for reaching a collective and multilateral agreement to settle world problems, Iran has offered a new idea in a framework of a proposal package, Jalili said.
The proposal package can be a good issue for negotiations among powers interested in such an approach, including 5+1 group, he added.
The Russian official, for his part, said, "Russia welcomes and supports every initiative which results to consolidation of stability, security and peace in the world and Russia appreciates Iran for presenting its new initiative to Russia at first."
He continued, "International community believes now in Iran's power and authority as an effective factor in promoting security, stability and peace in the world."
Sobolev conveyed messages of Russian president and president elect to Jalili and said, "Russian President Elect Medvedev has expressed hope for long term cooperation between the two countries and that the new political development in Russia has no effect on its friendly stances toward Iran."
He went on to say President Putin has repeatedly underlined that the basis and principle of ties between Iran and Russia are the same agreements he reached in his meeting with the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and president Ahmadinejad.
Russian acting secretary of national security council stressed, "Russia is committed to completion of Bushehr nuclear power plant on due time."
Sobolev said Russia considers Iran as a safe partner in the issue of energy and that Russia's policy about energy and security of energy in the world is totally clear and transparent and Russia supports any idea which benefits the issue of energy security in the world.
He said Russia believes Iran is an influential country in the regional developments and added, "We can take effective steps towards security and stability in the world together."
Valentine Sobolev heading a high ranking delegation arrived in Tehran on Sunday evening and during his 2-day stay will hold talks with Dr. Jalili and other senior Iran's officials.
