TEHRAN, Aug. 12(Mehr News Agency)--Iran has thumped Qatar 6-1 in the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Championship on Monday in Tehran's Takhti Stadium.

Defending champion will play Syria on Wednesday in the semifinal round. Jordan also strolled to a 3-1 win against Oman in the another match.

Iran's first goal came with a powerful kick by Milad Meydavoudi in the 10th minute. Ahmad Al Neme scored the second goal 12 minutes from the first half.

Hadi Aghili opened Qatar's goal from the penalty spot three minutes into the second half as Ehsan haj-Safi scored the fourth in the 62nd minute.

Jalal Rafkhaei and Meydavoudi celebrated their goals in the 85th and 90th .

Visitors' sole goal was scored by Meshaal Abdullah in the 52nd minute.

The final match will be played on Friday.

Iran has been crowned three times out of four in the tournament.
