Direct Dialogue of two Iranian and American artists for Peace

Report by Ahmad Nadalian, RiverArt

In the past three weeks American artist Adam Jones traveled to Iran. He is working on a long project for the restoration and protection of the human environment of Iran.

I met Adam and his wife Noori in Kansas City last year when I traveled to the USA. They assisted me to realize the project named "Red People".  More

They provided fragmented red stones.  I depicted imaginary portraits of Native American.  Adam and one of his friends who is an artist assisted me to burry these carvings in Kansas City.  One of the carvings was buried near an old tree.

Unfortunately for some reason this tree has now been cut down. This tree was a marker for a hidden work.

While Adam was in Iran he visited the river where I am now working.  I gave Adam some apples from my paradise.

I carved a bird and gave it to Adam. He promised to take this bird to USA and hided it in the hollow of a tree. This is a metaphor of a peace offering from Iran.

On the first January 2008 we received British sculptor, Benjamin Hewett (Ben) who came to our Paradise. On the 2nd of April 2008, Ben went back home. Before he left I give him one of my carvings which had a design of a bird. I called this bird "the Bird of Peace". Ben will take it home and make a nest in a hollow of a tree where he lives and this bird will start a new life. More

This Iranian bird now has a nest in UK

I am happy that after a long time my fish can now swim across international borders and now my birds can fly to any place.  I hope in future no one will cut this three.

Adam believes that the dialogue created by artists and their fellow humans is one of the strongest tools to create understanding and build relationships that make people believe that all people from every where can have a kind heart and that war is a worthless way to solve our world problems.

We believe that the timing and nature of our collaboration is of great importance in consideration of the current political situations that surrounds us and may affect all the world.
