Berlin, Aug 16, IRNA - German football coach Erich Rutemoeller denied a report by ISNA news agency which said he had been appointed to Iran's national football team, DPA reported Saturday.
Rutemoeller said although he was in Iran a month ago following a request by the German Football Federation (DFB), no deal was reached.
"There were definitely no agreements or assurances made," the 63- year-old Rutemoeller added, pointing to his earlier negotiations with Iranian football officials.
Meanwhile, the DFB made clear that Rutemoeller is to fulfill his contract, set to expire at the end of the year, as an instructor for the German Football Federation.
DFB spokesperson, Harald Stenger said there were even plans to extend Rutemoeller's contract.
"Erich Rutemoeller is involved in promising talks with the DFB to extend his contract," added Stenger.
The former FC Cologne and Hans Rostock coach is supposed to be used as an instructor and international relations coordinator for the DFB.
Rutemoeller has reportedly asked the DFB to have a new contract on a freelance basis so that he could take up other international assignments.
Iranian head coach Ali Daei confirmed earlier in the day Rutemoeller's appointment and told ISNA that the 63-year-old would start his job in about three weeks.
