TEHRAN, Aug. 19 (ISNA)-The five Iranian diplomats kidnapped in Arbil, Iraq will finally meet with their families, announced an official in Tehran.
On January 11, 2007, the U.S. soldiers kidnapped five Iranian diplomats from Iran's consulate office in Arbil, north of Iraq.
The U.S. accused them of being agents of Iran's intelligence service and detained them in its prison in Baghdad. Iran has repeatedly said that the detainees were consular officers and demanded their immediate release through various routes.
"After the U.S. announced readiness for this visit, a list of the families was dispatched to Baghdad and now everything is ready for this visit," the official said "only the exact time should be set by the U.S. and the Red Cross."
Over Iraqi president Jalal Talabani's trip to Tehran for recovery after his heart surgery in the U.S. this official said that Talabani will probably take this trip but Iraqis have not yet announced its exact time.
