Hula-hoopers, Activists, Scholars & Peace-lovers Unite During the DNC to Stage a
Creative and Fun-Filled Demonstration for Peace, for Unity and for Hope
Join
attorney, author, hooper and activist Melody Moezzi and hundreds of others as
they make their voices heard by Hooping for Peace (HFP).
HFP invites all to participate
in supporting world peace, Barack Obama's call for
peace and diplomacy, as well as his ultimate election. As a result, HFP
opposes all acts of aggression that are not in imminent and genuine
self-defense, including any invasion or occupation of Iran, or any other country
not presenting an immediate threat inside our borders.
Hooping for Peace will be a two-day long, free outdoor
event in Denver during the Democratic National Convention on the
University of Denver's Driscoll Green (2055 E. Evans Ave). HFP will
be on Tuesday, August 26 and Wednesday, August 27 from 8am-8pm
each day, rain or shine. We'll have plenty of large tents, and one
specifically designated for the media, so no worries. Free hula-hoops, food,
and refreshments will be provided. HFP will also be accepting hoop
donations for local schools and children.
Anyone can participate--either by hula-hooping, dancing,
gawking, stopping by for the speakers and panel discussions, speaking or
performing at the open mics, or just by sharing some good food and conversation.
HFP has sent out a special
invitation to Michelle Obama and her family,
particularly since, according to Barack in a recent People Magazine
feature, "She is the best Hula-Hooper I know." We warmly welcome them and anyone
else with a passion for peace and the courage to stand up for it.
The hoop is a medium—hooping skills are optional,
heart is mandatory.
Apart from hooping to the beats of lively and diverse
tunes, HFP will also be hosting several speakers and panel
discussions with leading progressive thinkers and activists,
including co-founder of the Iraq Veterans' Refugee Aid Association (IVRAA) and
former Army Captain, Luis Montalvan; author, scholar, activist and professor of
Islamic studies, Dr. Liyakat Takim; CODEPINK co-founders, Jodie Evans and Medea
Benjamin, along with many others. We look forward to seeing you there!
