TEHRAN, Aug. 24 (Mehr News Agency)-- Iran claimed victory over Maldives in the 14th Asian Junior Men's Volleyball Championship opening match on Saturday in Tehran's Azadi Gym.

Defending champions eased past Maldives 3-0 (25-6, 25-10, 25-8) in the preliminary round in Group A.

The team is scheduled to play Qatar on Monday.

Pakistan beat Chinese Taipei 3-1 in Group D, Indonesia won over Sri Lanka 3-2 in Group C, Australia defeated Kazakhstan 3-1 in Group B and in Group C again, South Korea beat India 3-1.

Altogether 13 teams participate in four groups in the 14th Asian Junior Men's Volleyball Championship from August 23-31.
