Tehran, Aug 31, IRNA - For the first time, Iranian female athletes, with physical disabilities will participate in the 2008 Paralympics games in China.

The Iranian athletes will compete in the fields of track and fields, shooting and table tennis.

Unlike the Olympics Games, the competitions of the Paralympic Games are not open to mentally distarded people.

Only athletes with physical disabilities can qualify for the Paralympics.

The Games will include 20 sporting events with special accommodations for athletes with physical disabilities.

Over 4,000 veteran athletes with physical disabilities from 150 countries will participate in the Paralympic Summer Games in Beijing, which will run from September 6-17.

Since the 2004 Athens Summer Olympic Games, the Paralympics have been held following the Olympic Games at the same city that hosts the Summer Olympics.
