Iran's Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has said that a US Congress letter to the Parliament is under study but Iran needs more detail to reply.
"The letter sent by members of the US Congress is being studied and we have not
responded it yet. The reason is that we need to know what the topics of talks
would be about," Iranian Parliament Speaker said at a press conference in Tehran
Larijani's remarks come as several letters have been received from US Congress members with the last one saying 'We think it is the time to start mutual talks.'
ON Saturday, deputy head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Hossein Sobhaninia also said that the identity of Americans willing to talk with Iran should be made clear.
"Non-governmental American groups have recently shown willingness for talks with Iran and their identity should be made revealed," Sobhaninia said, IRNA reported.
The Iranian official noted that before any talks, the intention of groups calling for dialogue, the information they seek to gain as well as their political affiliation should be clarified.
"The move is not negative. Talks with non-government groups can be positive if they were aimed at clarifying ambiguities. The US government should accept realities and talk with Iran on a fair basis," the lawmaker stated.
The United States broke off diplomatic relations with Iran following the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
