Ecuadorian president officially welcomed by Iranian counterpart

Tehran, Dec 6, IRNA - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Saturday officially welcomed his Ecuadorian counterpart, President Rafael Correa Delgado. President Delgado, heading a high-ranking delegation arrived in Tehran Friday evening to review issues of mutual interest with his Iranian counterpart and other senior officials.

The ceremony was held at Presidential premises downtown Tehran this morning.

During the ceremony, national anthems of the two countries were played and the two presidents reviewed guard of honor.

The two presidents started their private talks immediately after the ceremony.

Ecuador's ministers of oil and mines, foreign affairs, agriculture and defense are accompanying President Delgado in his first visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Expansion of economic relations would top the agenda of talks to be held between President Delgado and senior Iranian officials.

Iran, Ecuador call for expansion of all-out ties

Visiting Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa Delgado and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took part in a joint press conference on Saturday where they urged expansion of all-out relations between the two countries.

The two sides' high ranking officials are determined to further deepen ties in all fields, said the Iranian president.

In private talks, the two presidents reviewed expansion of bilateral relations in various fields, he said.

The two sides' talks focused on various topics such as expansion of cooperation in oil, agriculture, industry and commerce as well as implementing joint projects, said President Ahmadinejad.

Expansion of relations and cooperation between the two countries will benefit both nations, he said and expressed the hope that the current visit of the Ecuadorian president to Iran would bear fruits.

The Ecuadorian president, for his part, called for bolstering of relations with Tehran.

Commercial attaches of Iran and Ecuador are now active and it is expected that the two sides' embassies would be opened in early next year, he said.

He said his country is ready to broaden cooperation with Iran in various fields such as politics, economy, commerce and trade.
