Iranian Women Lead Men in Higher Education

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Statistics released last Saturday by Iran's Women Socio-Cultural Council show that the percentage of women entering universities has increased to 58% which shows a 37.24% growth over the last three decades.

Nahid Azam Ram Panahi, Women Socio-Cultural Council deputy director, told a meeting of university chancellors and professors that women constituted 64% of the applicants for academic studies in 2008 which shows a 24.27 percent increase comparing to the last decade.

The number of female applicants for university studies has risen by 31 percent in human sciences, 31 percent in applied sciences, 14.8 in foreign languages, 13.8 percent in technical courses and mathematics, and 6.3% in art.
