Iran's Noshad Alamiyan has snatched a victory over his English rival Liam Pitchford at the World Junior Table Tennis Championships.
The Iranian athlete topped his group with 8 points after beating Pitchford 3-2
(11-8, 6-11, 12-10, 9-11, 11-9) on Thursday.
Alamiyan had already advanced to the knockout stages of the event on Wednesday
following his 3-2 victory over his South Korean opponent Jung Young Sik.
The 17-year-old Alamiyan defeated Cheung Yat Fung Johnny of Hong Kong 3-0 in his
first game of the competition hosted by Spain.
A total of 48 athletes will compete in the knockout stages of the World Junior
Table Tennis Championships in Madrid December 6-13.
