Tehran, Dec 13, IRNA - Iran and Egypt on Friday agreed that parliament speakers from Iran, Indonesia, Syria, and Egypt hold a meeting to take practical steps to ease the humanitarian crisis in Gaza Strip.
The agreement was made in a telephone conversation between Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani and his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Fathi Sorour.
Larijani briefed Sorour on the decision made by
the Assembly of Asian Parliaments (APA) on participation of parliament speakers
from Iran, Indonesia and Syria to consult with Egypt on ways to ease the Gaza
"The Assembly of Asian Parliaments acknowledged to help ease the hardship facing the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip and facilitate dispatch of food supplies and medicines to Gaza via Egypt and other diplomatic routes," Larijani said.
Appreciating efforts made by the Egyptian speaker to help remove Israeli blockade to Gaza Strip, he expressed hope that Tehran-Cairo friendly ties would further strengthen.
Voicing concern of the Muslim World over the critical situation in the Gaza Strip, Larijani called for further steps by the Muslim countries towards settlement of the Palestinians problems.
He called on Egypt in particular, due to its special geographical situation, to help settle the ongoing Palestinian crisis.
The Egyptian speaker appreciated the initiative of the Iranian Majlis and the APA to help resolve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza Strip and said that Egypt is ready to render any assistance in that regard.
