Zahedan, Sistan-Baluchestan prov, Dec 13, IRNA - Hamoud Lagoon which is the seventh international lagoon is on the verge of destruction and it has nearly gone dry, said head of the Hamoun Lagoon Research Center.
Speaking to IRNA Saturday, Zaman Shahmohammadi added that some sections of the lagoon have been dried up and recent rainfalls were not effective in its revival.
The lagoon is of higher significance to the residents of the area, he noted, complaining that it has now turned to a path for the automobiles carrying smuggled fuel.
Agriculture in Sistan depends on Hamoun Lake, which has turned the region into a beautiful island.
An ancient seat of civilization, Sistan lies in a large depression divided between Afghanistan and Iran.
