Iran Health Minister asks for import ban on e-cigarettes

Tehran, Dec 16, IRNA - Iran's Health Minister Dr. Kamran Baqeri Lankarani here Monday in a letter addressed to Mines and Industries Minister asked for imposing a sever ban against issuance of import licenses and distribution of electronic cigarettes in Iran.

According to IRNA Social Desk reporter, Lankarani has in his letter referred to the addictive and ailment inflicting attributes of e-cigarettes, and in accordance with articles 3, 4, and 14 of the Comprehensive National Law Against Smoking, asked for imposing a ban on imports of the product, as well as confiscation and destroying of the already imported devices.

According to the report, despite the claims made by the manufacturers of electronic cigarettes that say the e-cigs let a controlled amount of nicotine to the users, based on research done by the Health Ministry they not only expose the user to a noticeable amount of nicotine, but also to another chemical, namely polypropylen lycogen, that is highly addictive and hazardous to health.
