Persian Gulf Sand Sculpture Festival to promote world peace

TEHRAN, Dec. 22 (Mehr News Agency) -- The First Persian Gulf International Sand Sculpture Festival will be held on the theme of "World Peace and Friendship" from March 16 to April 5 in the southern Iranian port of Genaveh.

The festival will begin on March 16 on the occasion of the 31th anniversary of Halabja poison gas attack and 25 artists will participate in the non-competitive festival, said event secretary Nadalian during the press conference on Sunday.

"We will begin construction of one of the sand sculptures on February 10 marking the 30th anniversary of the victory of Islamic Revolution of Iran and it will be completed by the beginning of the festival," Nadalain mentioned.

The participants of the festival are young artists born after the Islamic Revolution who will create their sand sculptures during the festival, he mentioned.

Each artist will present one sculpture during the festival. Five artists from Persian Gulf Region and European countries will be participating in the gala, he added.

The festival will be held during Noruz holidays (Iranian New Year) in a 50-hectare field. Persian Gulf region's handicrafts and souvenirs will be available during the event, a festival official, Hassan Bahadori, mentioned.

"Since the sand sculptures are more than one-meter height and can not be preserved naturally, we will preserve the artwork created during this event with the help of nanotechnology," he added.
