Former Spanish team coach Javier Clemente Lasaro says he is prepared to put pen to paper with Iran's Football Federation (IFF).
"My presence in Tehran indicates that I am ready to sign a contract with Iran's Football Federation (IFF)," the much awaited coach Clemente told reporters after he landed at the Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA) in Tehran late Saturday.
Clemente said he is yet to finalize deal with the IFF, and will make up his mind after fully studying the national team's condition and taking a close look into the "Iranian culture".
He said his visit to Tehran is an attempt to take a reading of the Iranian national team's capabilities and inspect Iran's football facilities.
"Over the past years, China, Japan and South Korea has made huge strides in football and that makes things more difficult for the Iranian team to stand on top of the Asian table," the 58-year-old Spanish coach said.
When he headed the Spanish national side from 1992-1998 he wracked up 31 straight wins.
Should he take the job, Clemente will be attempting to coach Iran's national football squad into the 2010 World Cup.
