TEHRAN, Feb. 4 (Mehr News Agency) - Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has described moderation as the "best way to govern the society."
"Extremism is the result of prejudice. Our country has suffered huge losses from extremism over the course of history," Rafsanjani told the Reformist Fundamentalist Front in a meeting on Monday.
"The main feature of the Islamic Revolution is the involvement of people in different events. People have had a key role in this revolution and the enemies have made every effort to separate people from the revolution through influencing their minds."
Rafsanjani who also chairs the Assembly of Expert said the West's efforts have failed to foment discord between people and the clerical system.
"The clergies are sensitive about all events related to the society and are an important impediment to the enemies' attempts to return anti-Islamic beliefs to the country."
Turning to the March 14 legislative votes, Rafsanjani called for holding a competitive election where "those political parties that are loyal to the system and the Islamic revolution" are allowed to run.
"The ground should be provided for the enthusiastic participation of people in the votes," the top official asserted.
